New Delhi council to double fossil-fuel parking fees in November, EV rates unchanged

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will double parking fees for fossil-fuel vehicles from November as part of its winter anti-pollution plan, while EV parking fees stay unchanged at one-fourth the cost, charging stations rise from 157 to 204 by December 31, and misting systems go to 24 major roads.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will double parking fees for fossil-fuel vehicles from November as part of its winter anti-pollution action plan. Parking fees for electric vehicles will remain unchanged, at one-fourth the cost of the doubled fossil-fuel rate, in a push to steer drivers toward public transport and electric vehicles.
The accompanying measures
Alongside the fee change, the council plans to expand EV charging stations from 157 to 204 by December 31 and to deploy misting systems on 24 major roads to suppress road dust. The measures run with New Delhi's wider winter pollution plan, which continues until February 28, 2027.
What it means for drivers
For drivers who park a petrol or diesel vehicle in the NDMC area every day, parking will cost noticeably more from November, while EV drivers will see no change and the price gap will widen further. The logic is straightforward: use price to discourage fossil-fuel parking in the city centre, while making charging easier so switching to an EV feels less risky.
Background
New Delhi's air quality worsens every winter, and vehicle emissions are one of the main sources. As this site reported on October 26, vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not meet BS-VI emission standards will be barred from entering the city from November 1. The parking fee doubling is another strand of the same winter drive, this time from the municipal council and aimed at parking within its central area.
