New Delhi: Opposition MPs march to Election Commission HQ today over voter-roll revision

INDIA bloc MPs march from Parliament House to the Election Commission HQ in New Delhi today, demanding the CEC's removal and a rollback of the voter-roll revision.
Why it matters
Opposition INDIA bloc MPs are marching today (October 6) from Parliament House in New Delhi to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters, Nirvachan Sadan, to lodge their protest over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in person. The march is the centrepiece of the opposition's nationwide "Save Democracy" campaign, and is why Delhi Police have deployed heavy security around Vijay Chowk today.
Full report
According to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, opposition MPs will assemble at Makar Dwar in Parliament House at 10:30 AM and set off for the poll panel's office at 11 AM. The opposition alleges the SIR has wrongly deleted large numbers of voters and is demanding the sacking of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, as well as a return to ballot-paper voting instead of electronic voting machines. The ECI maintains the revision follows statutory procedures and that deleted names can be restored through claims and objections; the two sides' accounts are contested.
Under the programme announced after the INDIA bloc's September 30 meeting, district-level "Save Democracy" marches run October 2 to 8, a mega rally in New Delhi is planned for November 1, and the bloc will seek an appointment with the President in the second week of October. Delhi Police have set up multiple layers of barricades around Vijay Chowk and Akashvani with Rapid Action Force personnel on the ground. Separately, the Aam Aadmi Party has said it will not join today's march and will protest independently.
