Dubai's RTA converts Al Satwa Roundabout into signalised intersection, cutting peak-hour queues by 60%

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority says travel time through the junction is down 50% and peak-hour waiting time and queues cut by up to 60% after converting the Al Satwa Roundabout into a signalised intersection.
Why it matters
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on October 14 that it has completed converting the Al Satwa Roundabout into a signalised intersection, along with supporting road and infrastructure upgrades. The RTA says travel time through the section is down 50%, and peak-hour waiting time and queue lengths are reduced by up to 60% — the latest step in its push to clear traffic bottlenecks in the older parts of the city.
What changed
The junction serves two-way traffic on 2nd December Street toward the Dubai World Trade Centre and Al Satwa, covering the Trade Centre, Al Bada'a, Al Jafiliya, Al Hudaiba and Jumeirah districts and linking to Sheikh Zayed Road. Bus entry and exit routes were also improved, which the RTA says strengthens the connection between the road network and the public transport system.
The conversion pairs with the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, part of the RTA's broader plan to raise road capacity around the central business district.
