Dubai to crown Arab Reading Challenge champion on Oct 29 after record 40.28 million entries

The 10th Arab Reading Challenge drew 40,286,428 students from 60 countries, a record high. The grand final takes place on Oct 29 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with UAE champion Danah Adel Al Zarouni, a Grade 6 student, representing the UAE.
Why it matters
The Arab Reading Challenge is the Middle East's largest youth reading initiative, launched in 2015 by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to promote reading and the Arabic language. Its 10th edition grew by about a quarter on the previous one, turning a regional initiative into a global youth reading movement.
Full report
The 10th Arab Reading Challenge attracted 40,286,428 students from 60 countries, involving 138,426 schools and 161,507 supervisors — the highest participation in its history, including 74,062 students of determination.
The grand final will be held on Oct 29 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where national champions will compete for the overall title. Dubai's ruler has announced that young readers from around the world will be celebrated that day at the crowning ceremony.
Representing the UAE is Danah Adel Al Zarouni, a Grade 6 student at Al Ittihad National Private School in Abu Dhabi, who won the UAE national final in July at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City, and was honoured by Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairperson of Dubai Culture.
Participants must read and summarise 50 books across several qualifying stages to reach the national finals; organisers put the edition's total prize money at 11 million dirhams.
