Dubai Seeks Contractors for Multibillion-Dollar First Al-Khail Road Project to Ease Sheikh Zayed Road Congestion

Contractors submitted expressions of interest; RTA is moving to the prequalification tender stage for the ~30 km elevated corridor.

Why it matters

Dubai's next multibillion-dollar road megaproject is moving into gear: the First Al-Khail Road scheme, a roughly 30-km corridor running parallel to the Sheikh Zayed Road artery, will relieve chronic congestion between Hadiqa Street and Hessa Street — a key project as Dubai's population and traffic keep growing.

Full report

Contractors submitted expressions of interest for the First Al-Khail Road project by October 10. The scheme covers about 15 km of elevated First Al-Khail Street viaduct plus 14.5 km of ramp bridges.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has held an online briefing for interested contractors and is preparing to move into the prequalification tender stage.

Once built, the corridor will siphon significant traffic off Sheikh Zayed Road, directly easing congestion on the Hadiqa Street–Hessa Street stretch. RTA officials also disclosed that Dubai's roads now carry 11 million trips a day and that the authority is studying an integrated underground transport network — signalling a long-term shift from widening existing roads to adding new transport layers.
