Dubai Police Arrest Six-Member Online Shopping Fraud Gang After Victims Lose Savings

According to a Dubai Police briefing, the gang used fake shopping websites to steal bank card data; one victim woke to find years of salary savings drained. All six suspects are in custody.
Why it matters
A textbook case of the new "fake website plus digital wallet" fraud: the victim clicked nothing suspicious and touched no phone, yet her savings vanished through a string of transaction alerts. Dubai Police's CID ran large-scale surveillance and coordinated raids that netted all six gang members.
Full report
According to a Dubai Police briefing on Oct 23, the gang — dubbed "Unexpected Deduction" by police — built fake online shopping websites to harvest victims' bank card data, made unauthorized purchases, funneled money into digital wallets they controlled, and resold some card data to other fraudsters. Officers seized victims' bank cards and chequebooks at the suspects' residences.
The case began when a woman working at a private company in Dubai (identified by police only as S.N.) reported that she woke up to find years of accumulated salary savings drained through a series of transaction alerts: "I was asleep — I didn't use my phone, I didn't buy anything." Several similar reports followed, prompting a dedicated task force.
Dubai Police advise the public to verify websites before shopping online, never share bank card details with unknown parties, and report unfamiliar transactions immediately (emergency line 901, or via Police Eye and eCrime).
