Dubai Tourism Rebounds: 6.97 Million Visitors in First Eight Months of 2026

Dubai drew 6.97 million international visitors in Jan–Aug 2026; August hotel occupancy hit 66%, nearly double March's 36%, as the emirate's tourism recovery gains pace.

Why it matters

After a bruising first half of 2026, when regional instability hit aviation and hotel demand, Dubai's tourism engine is clearly turning. Hotel occupancy nearly doubled from 36% in March to 66% in August — the single clearest sign that visitors are coming back — though the city is still short of its 2025 pace, leaving room for the winter high season to close the gap.

Full report

DUBAI — Dubai welcomed 6.97 million international overnight visitors in the first eight months of 2026, with August alone drawing about 869,000 arrivals, the highest monthly figure since February, according to figures from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) highlighted in an October 4 travel-trade update.

Hotels are filling up again: August occupancy reached 66%, up sharply from 36% in March, and hotels logged 21.61 million occupied room nights between January and August. The emirate's room inventory approached 149,000 by the end of August even as some properties began major renovations. August occupancy stood at 89% of the level recorded in August 2025 — below last year's 80.7% average pace, so the recovery is not yet complete.

The visitor base stayed broad: Western Europe was the largest source region at 20% of January–August arrivals, followed by South Asia at 17%, the Gulf Cooperation Council at 16%, and CIS and Eastern Europe at 14%. Monthly visitor numbers have grown by double digits month-on-month since March as international air links were restored.
