Dubai truck restrictions take effect today on major roads during peak hours

Dubai's RTA and police impose tiered truck bans on major roads from October 1, 2026, targeting congestion and road safety.
Why it matters
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police announced on September 26 that truck movement restrictions take effect across Dubai from October 1, 2026. The rules aim to ease congestion and improve road safety by keeping heavy trucks off key corridors during the busiest hours.
Where and when trucks are banned
Three tiers apply. A round-the-clock ban covers Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, all intersections and the Airport Tunnel. A 16-hour daily ban (6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) covers Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street and residential areas including Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah and Oud Al Muteena. During three peak windows — 6:30–8:30 a.m., 1:00–3:00 p.m. and 5:30–8:00 p.m. — trucks are barred from Airport Street, Amman Street, Damascus Street and the Ras Al Khor Road–Sharjah border stretch of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
What operators need to know
Emirates Road is not covered by the restrictions, giving freight operators an alternative corridor. The RTA says 14 of 16 planned truck rest areas are complete, with 364 additional parking spaces added at seven facilities. Operators who must travel during restricted hours can apply to the RTA for an exemption permit.
