· N GLOBE

The 12th World Green Economy Summit opened on October 21 at Dubai World Trade Centre, inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. Running October 21–22, the summit expects 3,300+ attendees and 80+ international speakers, focused on scaling proven green solutions.

Why it matters

This year's summit is all about scale: organizers say the global green economy is already worth more than US$5 trillion a year and is projected to exceed US$7 trillion by 2030. Dubai is positioning itself as the global hub of the green transition, turning past successes into replicable investment and projects.

The opening

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the summit was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. It is organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), at Sheikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre. The opening ceremony featured a keynote by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Full report

The summit is expected to draw more than 3,300 attendees and over 80 international speakers, structured around four pillars — Energy Technology & Infrastructure, Business Strategy & Transition, Water & Food Security, and Finance — plus three cross-cutting themes: artificial intelligence, governance, and supply chains & circular economy.

Al Tayer said the priority is to scale proven solutions and accelerate implementation. He cited the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, whose capacity is set to exceed 8,000MW by 2030 (from 3,860MW today), with clean energy already accounting for more than 21.5% of DEWA's total production capacity. World Economic Forum data shows revenues from green markets growing twice as fast as conventional business lines, while solar PV and lithium battery costs have fallen about 90% since 2010.
