Hong Kong raises domestic helpers' minimum wage 2.35% to HK$5,220 a month

The government announced the Minimum Allowable Wage for foreign domestic helpers rises from HK$5,100 to HK$5,220 a month, applying to contracts signed from today (Oct 3). The food allowance stays at no less than HK$1,236 a month.
Why it matters
The Hong Kong Government announced yesterday that the Minimum Allowable Wage for foreign domestic helpers rises 2.35%, from HK$5,100 to HK$5,220 a month. The new rate applies to all FDH contracts signed on or after today (Oct 3, 2026).
Contracts signed at the old rate on or before Oct 2 will still be processed if applications reach the Immigration Department by Oct 30. The food allowance in lieu of free food is unchanged at no less than HK$1,236 a month.

The government said the review considered general economic performance, labour market conditions, the near-term outlook, employer affordability and helpers' basic living needs, and that employers and helpers were consulted. Last year's increase was 2.2%.
