The Transport Department said traffic at the Zhuhai Port plaza of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, in the Hong Kong-bound direction, was very busy. According to the bridge's Zhuhai Port website, small-vehicle immigration lanes were at an "extreme peak", with queues stretching beyond 500 metres and inspection waits of up to 40 minutes. Officials warned congestion could persist through the day as return flows intensified.
Immigration Department figures up to 10:00am showed 184,737 crossings at all control points, of which 102,886 were inbound. Among arrivals, 59,339 were mainland visitors and 38,180 were Hong Kong residents. The busiest inbound checkpoint was the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line (Futian Port on the mainland side) with 16,848 entries, followed by the High Speed Rail terminus with 15,046 and Lo Wu with 13,815.
Over the first three days of Golden Week (October 1-3), about 732,000 mainland visitor arrivals were recorded, up about 8.35% from roughly 677,000 in the same period last year. October 3 alone saw more than 221,000 mainland visitors enter Hong Kong. Authorities said they would keep monitoring passenger volumes and traffic conditions and urged the public to check updates and allow extra travel time.
