HKEX Launches AI and Semiconductor Indexes, Licenses AI Index for Mainland ETFs
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing on Friday launched an AI index tracking 40 HK-listed AI value-chain companies and a semiconductor index tracking the 30 largest chip-related firms, and signed a licensing deal with China Southern Asset Management for mainland ETFs based on the AI index.
Two new indexes
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) on Friday, October 23, launched two new indexes: the HKEX Artificial Intelligence Index, tracking 40 Hong Kong-listed companies with high exposure to the AI value chain, and the HKEX Semiconductor Index, tracking the 30 largest semiconductor-related companies listed in Hong Kong. The AI index covers five layers of the AI ecosystem — chip design, data centers, AI infrastructure, AI models, and software and physical applications — while the semiconductor index covers manufacturing, equipment, electronic components, computing hardware and storage.
Methodology
Constituents are chosen under a methodology that favors companies with significant AI-related research and development and capital spending, Reuters reported.
ETF licensing
HKEX also signed a licensing deal with China Southern Asset Management for exchange-traded funds (ETFs) based on the AI index in mainland China; issuance details will be announced later.
