Hong Kong unveils 24-hour transport plan for redeveloped Huanggang Port: 7 bus, 6 minibus, 5 cross-boundary coach routes

· N GLOBE

Hong Kong's Transport Department unveiled the traffic and transport arrangements for the redeveloped Huanggang Port's 24-hour operation: 7 franchised bus, 6 green minibus and 5 cross-boundary coach routes, plus dedicated lanes and a taxi queue system.

Why it matters

The redeveloped Huanggang Port will be Hong Kong's only 24-hour land passenger crossing with Shenzhen, so getting people to and from the new port around the clock is a key part of the opening. The Transport Department's plan locks in a full overnight public-transport network for the first time at a land boundary control point.

Full report

Under the arrangements announced today, the port will be served by seven franchised bus routes, six green minibus routes and five short-haul cross-boundary coach routes operating round the clock, carrying passengers directly to districts across Hong Kong. The franchised bus routes will pass through nine MTR stations and four bus-bus interchanges for onward connections.

The department has also arranged dedicated public-transport lanes leading directly to San Sham Road from Fanling Highway and San Tin Highway for franchised buses, green minibuses and cross-boundary coaches, bypassing San Tin Interchange to speed up journeys. Operators will monitor passenger demand and step up or adjust services as needed.

For taxis, vacant urban and New Territories taxis as well as pre-booked fleet taxis must first obtain a queue ticket at the public-transport buffer area, then proceed to their stands in order. Passengers with a pre-booked fleet taxi register at the service station by showing the vehicle registration mark, and ambassadors dynamically deploy waiting taxis to the pick-up area. There will be no pickup area for other ride-hailing or pre-booked taxi services at the port.
