On Oct. 9, Hong Kong's Security Bureau and the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government Port Office jointly announced that the rebuilt Huanggang Port will officially open at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, providing 24-hour clearance for passengers and coaches.
At the same time, clearance services between the old temporary port building and the Lok Ma Chau Control Point will be suspended, and travelers will switch to the new port.
Legal arrangement: the State Council earlier approved that the Hong Kong-side port area and related extended areas of the new port came under Hong Kong jurisdiction from midnight on July 31, 2026.
Capacity: the new port is expected to handle 200,000 person-trips per day (the old port handled 50,000); once the Northern Link spur line of the Northern Metropolis opens in 2034, capacity can rise further to 300,000 per day.
Transport links (announced by the Transport Department on Oct. 7): 7 franchised bus routes, 6 green minibus routes and 5 short-haul cross-boundary bus routes, all operating 24 hours; a dedicated public-transport lane leads directly to the new Huanggang Port.
