Hong Kong MTR to offer half-price fares on 24 October under service-performance rebate

· N GLOBE

MTR will run a 'Fare Promotion Day' on Saturday, 24 October, with half-price fares on eligible journeys across heavy rail, Light Rail and NW New Territories buses, including cross-boundary trips to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau.

Why it matters

Hong Kong's MTR will hold a 'Fare Promotion Day' on Saturday, 24 October: eligible journeys will cost half price, covering MTR heavy rail, Light Rail and MTR buses in the northwest New Territories, including cross-boundary trips to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau.

On ticketing: heavy-rail rides via QR code, and Light Rail and bus rides via Octopus or JoyYou cards qualify; East Rail Line First Class, the Airport Express, MTR feeder buses, e-single journey tickets and contactless bank cards are excluded.

The discount can be combined with interchange discounts, fare deductions, the 25% off monthly-pass connection and the government's HK$2 concession scheme. MTR has published an event page on its official website with the terms.

This follows the 'service performance rebate arrangement' introduced in 2023: once the rebate account accumulates HK$25 million, a special fare day is held to return the money to passengers (per HK01).
