National Make a Dog's Day Celebrates "Underdogs" Finding Forever Homes

Subaru's National Make a Dog's Day marked its eighth edition on October 22, this year spotlighting the overlooked "underdogs" — senior dogs, disabled dogs and those with special needs; 15 dogs found new homes at a New Jersey adoption party the same day.
What day is it
October 22 is National Make a Dog's Day in the US — founded by automaker Subaru in 2019 and held every October 22. This year marks the eighth edition, part of its Subaru Loves Pets initiative.
This year's stars: the underdogs
This year's theme spotlights the "underdogs" — the dogs most easily passed over at shelters: senior dogs, disabled dogs and those with special needs. Subaru invites the public to take part through adoption, volunteering, donations, or simply "making your own dog happier." At Grand Subaru's 2026 pet adoption party in New Jersey, 15 dogs found new homes that very day.
Sienna's story
A stray named Sienna says it best: she once scavenged garbage on the streets, her severe skin disease leaving her nearly hairless — until rescuer Niall took her in. Now in a forever home in Wales, her fur has grown back and she runs wagging her tail across mossy rocks. The video has earned more than 49,300 likes, captioned: "Love changes everything for Sienna."
