Israeli startup doubleAI on Oct 19 unveiled its first product, Maxwell, which it says creates an entirely new AI category called "Code Execution Models" (CEMs). Unlike large language models and coding assistants, CEMs do not help developers write programs. Instead they operate "between code and silicon": analyzing a running program, its hardware and its data in real time, and rewriting the underlying machine instructions to fit current conditions — without changing the original source code.
The company says Maxwell formally and mathematically proves every rewrite correct, ensuring optimizations do not change program behavior; each verified, faster version becomes the starting point for the next round, so programs in theory keep getting faster the longer they run. The company claims one early customer's compute costs fell 67%; The Wall Street Journal reported that customer LTX said Maxwell doubled its model inference speed.
doubleAI was co-founded by former Mobileye CEO Amnon Shashua and Shai Shalev-Shwartz, operated in stealth until recently, and earlier raised a $200 million Series A (co-led by Lightspeed and Bessemer), valuing it at more than $1 billion. Investors include NVIDIA and Dell Technologies Capital. The company plans to charge customers based on the compute savings it delivers.
