· N GLOBE

Japan's Renesas Electronics reported third-quarter revenue of ¥435.2 billion on a non-GAAP basis and operating profit of ¥150.5 billion, with AI data-centre demand powering its industrial business.

Japan's Renesas Electronics reported results for the third quarter of fiscal 2026 (July to September) on October 29: on a non-GAAP basis, revenue was ¥435.2 billion and operating profit was ¥150.5 billion, an operating margin of 34.6%. Profit attributable to owners of the parent was ¥125 billion. On an IFRS basis, revenue was ¥435.9 billion.

AI data centres are the main growth engine

Industrial, Infrastructure and IoT revenue rose 46.4% year over year to ¥243.8 billion, with memory interface and digital power products especially strong; data-centre products now account for about 21% of total revenue. Automotive also recovered, rising 19.3% to ¥189.5 billion, helped by wider adoption of 28nm microcontrollers among Chinese customers and the ramp of the fourth-generation R-Car Gen4 automotive system-on-chip.

Capex jumps as digital power capacity heads for 2 to 2.5 times

Third-quarter capital expenditure, on an investment-decision basis, was ¥111.2 billion, sharply up from ¥22.6 billion in the previous quarter, with about 80% earmarked for capacity expansion covering the Naka and Saijo fabs in Japan and the back-end site in Malaysia. The company plans to raise annualised digital power production capacity to 2 to 2.5 times the 2026 level, with the Saijo expansion expected to take full effect from the first quarter of 2027.

Fourth-quarter outlook

Renesas forecasts fourth-quarter revenue of ¥454.0 billion and an operating margin of 32.0%. The company noted that IFRS third-quarter operating profit includes one-time gains from the transfer of its timing business, completed on July 1; the non-GAAP margin of 34.6% is the better gauge of underlying earnings power.
