KPop Demon Hunters Soundtrack Tops Chart for 66 Weeks, Passing Moana for Billboard Soundtracks Record

The soundtrack to Netflix's animated film KPop Demon Hunters has set another record. According to the latest Billboard Top Soundtracks chart reported on October 29, the album has spent 66 weeks at No. 1, passing Disney's Moana, which held the record at 62 weeks, to become the chart's all-time leader in weeks at the top.

Animated films sweep the top five

The record also underlines animated films' dominance of the soundtracks chart: the top five by weeks at No. 1 are now all animated-film soundtracks — KPop Demon Hunters at 66 weeks, Moana at 62, Frozen II at 51, Frozen at 44 and Encanto at 41. Behind them come The Greatest Showman and O Brother, Where Art Thou? at 34 weeks each, Barbie at 33, and A Charlie Brown Christmas at 31.

A chart with a start date

Billboard's Top Soundtracks chart was launched on June 30, 2001, and only counts chart performance since then, so earlier classics such as Saturday Night Fever and Purple Rain have no comparable full-career totals. KPop Demon Hunters' longevity was not a single uninterrupted run: it has come and gone from the summit and returned repeatedly, which is what carried it past Moana's 62-week mark — a rare case of a streaming animated film's soundtrack entering chart history.
