The Lagos State Government has received 20 additional high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses under the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicle Buses. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said in a statement that the new buses will boost public transportation capacity and support the state's transition to cleaner energy.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the buses would improve commuters' daily travel experience with greater capacity, better comfort and cleaner journeys. He described the intervention as an opportunity to build a “cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable transportation system.”
Osiyemi thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the initiative, saying it aligned with Lagos State's investment in an integrated transportation system comprising BRT, rail and waterways. He called for continued Federal Government support through more CNG buses and the infrastructure needed for their operation and maintenance, and urged private-sector investors to explore opportunities in fleet financing, leasing, CNG infrastructure, EV charging, maintenance, technology and ticketing.
