CashAfrica brings tap-to-pay to Chicken Republic, starting with 54 Lagos outlets

Nigerian fintech startup CashAfrica partnered with quick-service chain Chicken Republic to roll out mobile tap-to-pay at its outlets, starting with 54 branches in Lagos before expanding to 350+ nationwide.
Why it matters
Everyday payments in Nigeria are still dominated by cash and bank transfers. Bringing contactless payments into the fast-food outlets people visit daily is seen as an important test for mainstream cashless adoption.
The deal
The partnership was sealed at a signing ceremony in Lagos on October 13. Customers can pay by tapping an NFC-enabled smartphone or contactless card on supported POS terminals; it is free for customers, while merchants pay 0.3%–1.5% depending on volume. Chicken Republic has more than 350 outlets across 25 states and recorded ₦60.9 billion ($45.7 million) in 2023 sales.
Company background
CashAfrica was founded in 2024 by Malik Asamu and Bello Opeyemi and reached 100,000 transactions by the end of 2025. The company claims 90% of first-time users make tap-to-pay their preferred payment method — a company claim yet to be independently verified.
