A grey Lexus 350 crashed into a pole and overturned on Lagos' Coastal Road near Eko Hotel, killing one and seriously injuring three, per LASTMA.

What happened

Early Friday (Oct 2), a grey Lexus 350 with registration number LSD 554 KV lost control on Lagos' Coastal Road heading inward toward Eko Hotel, slammed into a roadside pole and overturned. One occupant died and three others sustained serious injuries.

Response

Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) monitoring traffic on the Coastal Road axis mobilized to the scene, secured the affected section of the road and, with the help of bystanders, extricated the three injured victims, who were taken to Duck-Yard Hospital in the Military Zone for urgent medical treatment. Security personnel from Victoria Island provided reinforcement, and the wreck was later towed off the carriageway to restore normal traffic flow.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki condoled with the family of the deceased and warned that "excessive speed, reckless driving and loss of vehicular control could have devastating and irreversible consequences," urging the public to report road crashes and emergencies via the agency's toll-free short code 3367.
