A Lagos Special Offences Court on Nov. 2 sentenced Harry Uyanwanne and Oluwakemi Odia to 14 years each for a 2010 property sale prosecutors said fraudulently claimed authority from a late owner's estate, ordering full restitution of ₦67,659,592.

A Lagos Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja on Monday, Nov. 2, sentenced a couple to 14 years in prison each. Justice Mojisola Dada convicted Harry Uyanwanne and Oluwakemi Odia, also known as Kristein Uyanwanne, of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence, involving ₦67,659,592, and ordered them to repay the full sum to the petitioner, Olusola Odemuyiwa; they were discharged on a forgery count. Three, one and 10 years; first defendant's term suspended until arrest

The sentences were three years for conspiracy, one year for stealing and 10 years, without the option of a fine, for obtaining money by false pretence, totalling 14 years each. The judge ordered that the first defendant's sentence be suspended until he is apprehended. The case was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1.

2010 sale claimed false authority; pair had an earlier fraud conviction

Prosecutors said the pair sold a property at No. 19 Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute Meta, Oyingbo, Lagos, in 2010 for ₦16 million, falsely representing that they had been authorised by the legitimate beneficiaries of the estate of the late Dr Moshood Babatunde Odemuyiwa. Separately, the same court sentenced Uyanwanne to 10 years and Odia to six years in December 2024 over a different ₦52 million property fraud.
