Lagos power disruption warned as Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330kV line trips

Nigeria's Transmission Company says the Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330kV line tripped at 12:37 a.m. on October 27 after damage to Y-phase downdropper twin conductors at the Ikeja-West end; engineers are working to restore it, with no timeline given, and bulk supply to parts of Lagos may be affected.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said on October 27 that the Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330kV transmission line tripped at 12:37 a.m., and bulk electricity supply to parts of Lagos State may be affected.

What failed, and who may feel it

According to TCN's statement, the trip followed damage to the Y-phase downdropper twin conductors at the Ikeja-West end. The line is part of the infrastructure carrying bulk electricity within Nigeria's national grid, so a fault on it can constrain delivery to distribution networks — in this case, customers served by Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC). TCN urged both distributors to take note and make necessary arrangements, and apologised to customers who may face disruptions.

Restoration under way

TCN said its engineers are working to restore the line as quickly as possible, but gave no specific timeline for completing repairs or resuming normal transmission. This is a line-fault notice, not a report of a nationwide grid collapse; which neighbourhoods are affected, and for how long, will depend on the distributors' arrangements and on how restoration proceeds.
