Lagos revokes licences of six private waste operators over poor service

LAWMA has withdrawn the operating licences of six private waste collectors after capacity assessments, covering six districts across Lagos.
Why it matters
A rare large-scale crackdown: six Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators lost their licences, affecting residents in Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Olorunda, Ojo, Orile Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Ojodu. Lagos is in the middle of a citywide waste crisis, with uncollected refuse reported across many neighbourhoods, so the move touches the daily lives of hundreds of thousands of residents.
Full report
Environment Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab announced on October 6 that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had withdrawn the licences of six PSP operators for failing to meet service standards. LAWMA Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin said one operator, K-HS Integrated Services (formerly Gboleybos), withdrew voluntarily, while the other five were terminated following capacity assessments.
Officials assured residents that waste services in the affected areas will continue without disruption, with other operators reassigned. The decision — reported consistently by ThisDay, Telegraph Nigeria, Daily Economy News, National Parrot, The Gazelle News and Lagos Eye News — is the toughest enforcement action yet in the city's ongoing waste crisis.
