On October 13, 2026, the Lagos State government announced the commencement of rehabilitation works on the final stretch of damaged sections of the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, disclosed this at a stakeholders' engagement held on Tuesday.
The works cover the damaged sections from Bonny Camp to Admiralty Way Junction and the VGC (Victoria Garden City) sections in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. The project has been divided into two phases and awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation; work is scheduled to commence on October 15 with the Bonny Camp–Admiralty Way Junction stretch.
Tokunbo Oyenuga, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Infrastructure, said the rehabilitation formed part of the government's broader efforts to improve major roads across Lagos, noting that sections between Admiralty Way and Ajah had already been rehabilitated. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, representatives of the traditional ruler of Iruland and lawmakers attended the meeting.
Daramola said the immediate commencement attests to Governor Sanwo-Olu's resolve to mitigate the risks of the road's poor condition and create a safer environment for all road users, with the objective of completing the entire stretch of the strategic highway. He urged residents to cooperate with traffic arrangements during the works.
