105 Nigerians repatriated from South Africa arrive in Lagos; total nears 2,000

Nigeria's foreign ministry said another 105 Nigerians fleeing xenophobic attacks arrived in Lagos from South Africa on Tuesday, bringing the total repatriated since June to 1,926.

Nigeria's foreign ministry said on October 6 that another 105 Nigerians have been repatriated from South Africa, arriving at Lagos's Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Background
Foreign ministry spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi said the latest group comprised 26 men, 29 women and 50 children, all leaving South Africa amid xenophobic attacks. The exercise is continuing, with more Nigerians undergoing verification and clearance in South Africa ahead of planned repatriation flights. Abuja said it was working with South African authorities to tackle xenophobic violence, while urging Nigerians in the country to be vigilant, obey local laws and stay in contact with its mission in Pretoria.
