Lagos Orders Statewide Road Repairs, Shifts Key Works to Nighttime

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ordered immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across Lagos State; LSPWC chief Tokunbo Ajanaku inspected projects on Oct 22 and said many repairs will be scheduled at night to cut traffic disruption.
Governor's directive
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across the state as part of intensified efforts to fix deteriorating infrastructure and improve mobility during the dry season. The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) has stepped up inspections of ongoing projects to evaluate progress, enforce quality standards and accelerate execution along critical corridors.
Night works
LSPWC General Manager Tokunbo Ajanaku led an inspection tour on October 22 covering Godwin Omonuwa Road, Taiwo Street, Salamotu Street, Peter Agah Street and Ibeh Street in Oshodi-Isolo, plus Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu, Awolowo Way in Ikeja, two roads in Shomolu and the Idimu-Ikotun Road in Alimosho. He said many repairs are being scheduled at night when there are fewer cars on the road, and night-time operations are being deployed on key routes to minimize traffic disruption.
Scheduling logic
Ajanaku explained that only emergency repairs and routine maintenance continued during the rainy season, while the dry season now allows full-scale reconstruction and asphalt laying. Intervention priorities are set by the level of deterioration, traffic volume, urgency and available resources. He urged residents, traders and motorists to keep drainage channels clear and avoid oil spills on road surfaces.
