UNILAG begins mandatory drug testing for new students on October 26: no screening, no registration

The University of Lagos says newly admitted UTME and Direct Entry students for the 2026/2027 session must undergo mandatory toxicology screening from October 26 to December 18 at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall, daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; completing the screening is a prerequisite for admission screening and registration.
Why it matters
For this year's newly admitted students at the University of Lagos, this is not optional: the university states plainly that toxicology screening is a prerequisite for newly admitted candidates, and without it they cannot proceed through admission screening and registration; under the university's standing rules, a positive result or refusal to be tested can cost a student their admission.
Full report
According to a University of Lagos statement reported by Peoples Gazette Nigeria on October 25, all newly admitted UTME and Direct Entry candidates for the 2026/2027 session must take part in mandatory toxicology screening. The exercise runs from Monday, October 26 to December 18, 2026.
Screening takes place at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall, where the university's toxicology team will collect and test samples daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To book appointments, students must complete a Google Form, upload their JAMB numbers and biodata forms, print the slips sent to their email addresses and present proof of payment at their appointments.
The statement says screening is a prerequisite for newly admitted candidates and must be completed before the admission screening and registration exercise. The University of Lagos has zero tolerance for drug abuse: under its published rules, the admission of a newly admitted student who tests positive, or who fails to undergo the test, will be withdrawn. The university urged students to visit its website for further information.
