Lagos unveils World Food Day events, expects 3,500 stakeholders

The Lagos State Government has unveiled its 2026 World Food Day lineup, expecting about 3,500 agri value-chain stakeholders; a road walk kicks off Thursday, with the grand finale on Oct 16.

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a lineup of activities for the 2026 World Food Day celebration, expecting about 3,500 agricultural value-chain stakeholders to take part and showcase farm produce and equipment. Dr Oluwarotimi Fashola, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Agriculture, announced the programme at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday; this year's theme is "Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow."

Activities include a road walk on Thursday, October 8, starting 8 a.m. from JJT Park opposite the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex to the Allen Avenue Roundabout and back; the Lagos Agric Scholars Quiz Competition on Wednesday, October 14, at 10 a.m. at the Fresh Food Hub, Idi-Oro, Mushin; and a grand finale on Friday, October 16, at 10 a.m. at the Ikeja Police College Parade Ground, with the governor as special guest of honour. World Food Day is observed every October 16 to commemorate the founding of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.
