London Freight Train Derails at Barking, Weekend Rail Disruptions Expected

A freight train derailed in Barking, east London on Friday, blocking platforms and damaging track and overhead equipment; c2c and London Overground services are suspended, with disruption possibly lasting through the weekend.
Why it matters
Right before the weekend travel rush, a key east London commuter artery is blocked. Barking is a junction for several c2c and London Overground lines, so this derailment means tens of thousands of weekend passengers will need alternative routes — check live departures before traveling.
Full report
At around 1:10 p.m. on Friday (Oct 23), a GB Railfreight freight train (service 4M47, from London Gateway to Hams Hall in Birmingham) partially derailed at Barking in east London, blocking platforms 7 and 8 at Barking station and damaging track and overhead line equipment. There were no passengers on board and no injuries; the UK's Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has investigators on site.
Operator c2c confirmed in an official notice that its Barking–Grays section is suspended, and the London Overground's Suffragette line is also affected. Disruption is expected to possibly continue through the weekend.
Network Rail said passengers can use their tickets on TfL buses, Greater Anglia trains and First Essex buses at no extra cost, and rail replacement buses have been arranged.
