London Bus and Tram Fares Rise for First Time in Three Years, to £1.85 From Nov 1

· N GLOBE

Transport for London confirmed this morning that adult bus and tram fares rise 10p to £1.85 from November 1, with the daily cap up to £5.55 — the first increase since 2023. Tube and rail caps stay frozen until March 2027.

Why it matters

London's bus and tram fare freeze ends after three years. The 5.7% rise is roughly double the inflation rate and directly affects millions of Londoners who rely on buses to commute, with lower-income passengers hit hardest.

Transport for London confirmed in a statement this morning: from November 1, the adult bus and tram fare, including the Hopper fare, will increase by 10p from £1.75 to £1.85. Fares for eligible concession card holders rise 5p, and the daily bus and tram cap increases by 30p to £5.55.

Tube and rail caps, along with Travelcards, will remain unchanged until March 2027.

The 5.7% increase is almost double the 3.1% inflation rate and is the first rise in London's bus and tram fares since March 2023. TfL said fare revenue plays a vital role in supporting a safe, reliable and sustainable transport network.

Passenger watchdog London TravelWatch criticised the above-inflation rise as hard to take for lower-income passengers who depend on buses, particularly with some routes seeing reduced frequencies and the slowest-ever bus speeds across the network.
