Two teenagers critically hurt in linked Dagenham stabbings, London police say

Two knife incidents minutes apart at spots just 500 metres apart in Dagenham, east London on Friday evening left a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries; the Metropolitan Police is treating the cases as linked.

Why it matters

At around 6:10 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 9), two knife attacks happened minutes apart at locations only about 0.3 miles (500 metres) apart in Dagenham, east London. Both teenagers suffered multiple stab wounds and were taken to major trauma centres with life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police has formally classified the cases as linked and opened an investigation, renewing scrutiny of knife violence in east London.

What happened

The first incident was on Terrace Walk, beside Parsloes Park, where a 19-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds; minutes later, a 17-year-old boy was found stabbed on Fanshawe Crescent. London's Air Ambulance landed in Parsloes Park to support two ambulance crews and a rapid-response medic; both victims were taken to major trauma centres.

Police investigation

Both teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon and remain in hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses to call 101 quoting CAD 5813/09OCT26, or to contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously.
