London Mayor Publishes Mobile Connectivity Report, Unveils 10-Action Framework

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has published a citywide mobile connectivity evidence report with data firm Ookla, including an interactive map, and set out 10 actions for boroughs to fix mobile black spots.
Why it matters
London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Oct. 15 published the London Mobile Connectivity Evidence Report alongside a new framework setting out 10 practical actions for boroughs to improve mobile phone signal across the capital. The report, developed with connectivity data experts Ookla, includes an interactive map of download speeds and signal strength.
Where signal is worst
Inner north and east London fare worst: Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets record weaker signal strength than the City of London, Kensington and Chelsea, Newham, Lambeth, and Hammersmith and Fulham. The framework advises boroughs to appoint dedicated mobile connectivity officers, identify council-owned buildings and land that could host network equipment, and ensure major developments consider connectivity from the outset.
4G and 5G coverage across the Tube network is about 70% complete, with the remaining work expected to finish by year-end. The work builds on the mayor's Connected London programme, launched in 2017 to improve fibre broadband, mobile connectivity and public Wi-Fi.
