A man in his twenties has died in north London after a tree fell onto his moving car on Dollis Road in Mill Hill. The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene at around 12:40 p.m., where the driver was pronounced dead.
Police and coroner investigate
Chief Inspector Guy Ellwood of the Metropolitan Police described the incident as deeply tragic and confirmed officers are working alongside the local authority and the coroner to establish the circumstances surrounding what happened. The driver's identity has not been released.
High winds at the time
London was hit by high winds at the time of the incident. Storm Boelo is expected to clear tonight, but another spell of deep low pressure is set to bring further wet and windy weather from the south-west on Monday, with gusts of up to 60 miles per hour widely and more than 70 miles per hour on exposed coasts and hills in northern Scotland.
Forecasters warn the latest system will coincide with the year's third-highest spring tides, raising fresh concerns over coastal flooding. Police advise the public to watch for roadside trees and falling debris in high winds and to avoid unnecessary travel in severe weather.
