Thames Water outage drags on: southwest London and Surrey homes still without water

Flushing work after a burst main left supplies intermittent; as of Monday 3pm many households still had no water, and an MP demanded answers.
Why it matters
The water outage hitting southwest London and Surrey has dragged into a second week. Thames Water repaired the large burst main on Walton Road in West Molesey two weeks ago, but "essential flushing" work over the weekend left many customers with intermittent low pressure or no supply. As of 3pm on Monday, October 12, many households were still without water, forcing cafés and dentists to close.

Thames Water apologized in a Monday statement on its website, saying crews were "on site slowly reversing the network back to normal," and that a final flush of the burst pipe was still required. The company said it expected "everything to be put back to normal at some point this evening," while warning of possible low pressure during high demand. Affected areas include East and West Molesey, Walton-on-the-Hersham, and Sunbury-on-Thames. Monica Harding, Liberal Democrat MP for Esher and Walton, took to Instagram on Monday to demand answers from Thames Water, calling the outage "unacceptable" and saying residents had told her they couldn't even fill a kettle. The original burst left around 15,000 properties with no water and forced schools to close.
