London weekend transport chaos: Piccadilly line to Heathrow shut, Tube and rail lines hit by closures

London faces major transport disruption this weekend (17–18 October): the Piccadilly line is closed between Hammersmith and Heathrow, no trains run in or out of London Victoria on Sunday, and multiple Overground, DLR and rail services are suspended.
Why it matters
London is facing a weekend of major transport disruption on 17–18 October, with multiple Tube, Overground, DLR and National Rail lines closed or diverted for engineering works — including the Piccadilly line route to Heathrow Airport. Passengers travelling this weekend should plan alternative routes in advance.
What's closed
Piccadilly line: no trains between Hammersmith and Heathrow or Uxbridge all weekend. On Sunday, no National Rail services run to or from London Victoria; there are no direct Stansted Express trains from London; no Southern trains between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction on either day; and West Coast Main Line services from Euston are disrupted.
London Overground: on Sunday, the Mildmay line is closed between Gospel Oak and Stratford until 11:15am and between Camden Road and Stratford after 10:15pm; the Suffragette line is suspended all day between Barking and Barking Riverside; the Weaver line has no service between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt on both days (rail replacement bus every 30 minutes); and the Windrush line shuts between Surrey Quays and New Cross after 10pm. DLR has no service between Tower Gateway and Shadwell on Sunday; Elizabeth line trains do not call at Acton Main Line, Hanwell or West Ealing on Sunday.
Trams are suspended between Sandilands and New Addington on both days, with New Addington residents saying they feel 'cut off' — and a 13-day network-wide closure is planned for Croydon starting 24 October.
Travel advice
Airport travellers should allow extra time and check live TfL and National Rail information before setting out; several lines wind down early on Sunday evening.
