LOS ANGELES, Nov 4 — California Deputy Attorney General Marissa Roy holds a commanding lead in the race for Los Angeles city attorney and is on track to become the city's second woman to hold the citywide office. According to returns released by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, Roy has 457,393 votes, or 66.13%, against 234,219 votes, or 33.87%, for Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney John McKinney — a margin of 223,174 votes.
About 63% counted; result not yet certified
The figures reflect about 63% of expected votes counted, with about 691,612 ballots tallied in the city attorney race. The result is not yet certified, and the county will continue counting mail-in and provisional ballots over the coming days, so the margin may still move — though Roy's lead already exceeds 32 percentage points. If she ultimately wins, Roy would succeed Hydee Feldstein-Soto, elected in 2022, who was knocked out of the race by Roy and McKinney in the June primary.
Other city races in the same count
In two open City Council seats in the same count, businessman Tim Gaspar held a narrow 833-vote lead over Barri Worth Girvan in District 3, while Jose Ugarte led Estuardo Mazariegos with 55.98% in District 9. In the mayoral race, Councilmember Nithya Raman and incumbent Mayor Karen Bass remain locked in a close contest, as this site previously reported.
