Why it matters

Full report
According to the county's notice, in-person public services from impacted departments are unavailable for the duration of the closure; online services can be accessed at lacounty.gov/closures.
The National Weather Service's Los Angeles/Oxnard office has a beach hazards statement in effect for Malibu and Los Angeles County beaches until 5 p.m. Tuesday: dangerous rip currents and elevated surf are expected, with high tides of 7.1 to 7.3 feet on Monday and Tuesday mornings and possible minor to moderate sea-water flooding around high tide in low-lying beach and harbor areas.
The NWS also issued a flood advisory for Los Angeles County on Monday evening, warning of minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas and urging drivers not to drive through flooded roads.
The backdrop is this weekend's powerful waves from Post-Tropical Storm Rachel: 13 homes along the Long Beach Peninsula have already been red-tagged, parts of the boardwalk washed away, and the city lifted most evacuation advisories only on Sunday.
