The Lakers fell 101-89 to Golden State in Las Vegas, scoring just 26 points in the second half with nearly 30 turnovers; Austin Reaves led all scorers with 28.

Why it matters

The Lakers' dress-rehearsal preseason game fell apart after halftime, as a 13-point lead turned into a 12-point loss behind nearly 30 turnovers. The bright spots: summer acquisition Walker Kessler impressed in his preseason debut, and Luka Doncic's absence was planned rest, not an injury.

Full report

The Los Angeles Lakers lost 101-89 to the Golden State Warriors in an NBA preseason game on Tuesday night, October 13, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Lakers led 63-50 at halftime but scored only 13 points in each of the third and fourth quarters - 26 for the entire second half - and committed 29 turnovers as Golden State stormed back with a 51-26 second half.

Austin Reaves led all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting (4-of-7 from three), plus seven assists and four rebounds. With Luka Doncic sitting out, Reaves ran the offense but also turned the ball over seven times.

Walker Kessler, the Lakers' marquee summer acquisition from Utah, made his preseason debut: 11 points, nine rebounds, one block and one steal in 16 minutes as a starter, with a team-high plus-15 rating. He missed the first three preseason games with a left pinky injury. Coach JJ Redick said before the game that Doncic's absence was planned rest: "He's not injured, just getting the night off."

For Golden State, Brandin Podziemski and Yaxel Lendeborg each scored 17 points, while Stephen Curry added 11 points in 23 minutes.

It was the Lakers' second preseason loss to the Warriors this month (after a 98-124 defeat on October 6), leaving them 2-2 in preseason play with both wins over Sacramento.
