Full report

The 2026–27 NBA season tipped off October 21 with the Los Angeles Lakers beating the Golden State Warriors 127–105 at home, their first win of the post-LeBron era. Sportradar data shows the Lakers led by as many as 35 points in the second half.

Luka Doncic posted 28 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists, closing the first half with a buzzer-beater from beyond half court. Newly acquired center Walker Kessler, who arrived from the Utah Jazz, scored 26 points on a perfect 12-for-12 in his debut, earning Shaquille O'Neal's “best big man in the NBA” praise. Stephen Curry scored 16 for the Warriors.

It was the Lakers' first official game since James' departure — he has signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to reports — and followed the franchise's sale. Most Warriors fans had left by the final minutes as the home crowd chanted “We want Bronny,” for Bronny James, James' son, who plays for the Lakers.
