Los Angeles County extends East LA small business grant deadline to Oct. 9
L.A. County moved the Small Business Recovery Grant deadline from Oct. 2 to Oct. 9, giving businesses hit by the June Lineage Fire and the May East LA oil spill one more week to apply for up to $3,000.
Why it matters
The June 17 Lineage Fire in Boyle Heights — which burned a 491,000-square-foot cold-storage warehouse for more than a week and left months of rotting food, foul odours and rodents — and the May 22 oil spill near E. Cesar E. Chavez Avenue disrupted commerce across East Los Angeles through no fault of local shop owners. The extension gives affected businesses one more week to claim relief money.

The Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) announced Friday that the application deadline for the Small Business Recovery Grant has been extended from October 2 to Friday, October 9, 2026.
The program, funded with First District funds under Board Chair Hilda Solis, offers up to $3,000 to eligible brick-and-mortar small businesses and up to $1,000 to home-based businesses with a customer presence, sidewalk vendors and mobile businesses located in county-designated impact areas tied to the Lineage Fire or the oil spill.
To qualify, a business must have operated at an eligible location for at least 30 days before the applicable incident, have 100 or fewer employees, have annual gross receipts of no more than $6 million, and demonstrate or attest to a qualifying business disruption, with documentation required. Businesses outside the designated impact areas are not eligible.
"These businesses should not have to face those challenges alone," Solis said in a statement. "Extending the deadline gives more owners an opportunity to apply, and I encourage every eligible small business to apply before the new deadline."
The DEO will offer one-on-one application assistance October 5–6 at El Centro de Maravilla. Applications opened September 17, with Southern California Grantmakers as fiscal sponsor and AidKit handling administration and payments.
