Montreal Marathon race day: 35,000 runners, 50 bus lines affected

The 34th Beneva Montreal Marathon wraps up today with the half-marathon and marathon. Roads closed 6:30 a.m.–3:25 p.m.; about 50 STM bus lines cancelled for part of the day or detoured; metro running extra service.

The 34th annual Beneva Montreal Marathon runs Oct 9–11, drawing 35,000 participants from 57 countries. Today (Sunday, Oct 11) is half-marathon and marathon day, with streets around the course closed from 6:30 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.

The route starts at Espace 67, crosses the Concorde Bridge and runs along Notre-Dame Street before continuing toward Lafontaine Park, Saint-Joseph Boulevard and Saint-Laurent Boulevard. Drivers can cross the course at several points, including Route 136, Sherbrooke Street, the Van Horne Viaduct, Highway 40 and the Viau Bridge.

The STM says about 50 bus lines will be cancelled for part of Sunday or detoured, with enhanced metro service and riders urged to buy tickets in advance. Separately, the Ministère des Transports says Highway 25, including the La Fontaine tunnel, is closed toward the South Shore Oct 9–13, with detours via the Champlain Bridge (until 11 p.m. Oct 11) and then the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
