Montreal: BIXI bikes free all Election Day to get voters to the polls
To encourage voter turnout, Élections Québec has teamed up with BIXI and àVélo: on Election Day, Oct. 5, BIXI rides are free from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. across 20 Greater Montreal cities plus Sherbrooke.
Why it matters
One less excuse to skip voting: select the "Élections Québec One-Way Pass" in the BIXI app and ride free — up to 25 minutes on a regular bike or 15 minutes on an e-bike, with the unlocking fee waived. Élections Québec wants to make getting to the polls as easy as possible.
How it works
Free rides run Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The BIXI network covers 20 cities in Greater Montreal plus Sherbrooke, with more than 13,000 bikes at 1,180 stations, including 3,500 e-bikes. Rides beyond the free window are billed at the usual rates: 21¢ per minute for regular bikes, 36¢ for e-bikes.
Quebec City too
Québec City's àVélo system is free as well — riders can get a "Journée Élections Québec" pass covering unlimited trips of up to 45 minutes between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
