Montreal Canadiens blank Blues 2-0 as Fowler makes career-high 46 saves

Rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler earned his sixth straight win, Zachary Bolduc scored against his former team and Florian Xhekaj netted his first NHL goal.
The Montreal Canadiens defeated the St. Louis Blues 2-0 in St. Louis on Tuesday night, October 27, as rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler made a career-high 46 saves for his second shutout of the season and his sixth straight win.
How the game unfolded
Zachary Bolduc opened the scoring at 8:37 of the second period, roofing a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle off a pass from Mike Matheson, against the team that drafted him. Florian Xhekaj made it 2-0 at 2:17 of the third, deflecting Matheson's wrist shot twice for his first NHL goal. Matheson finished with two assists. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington made 18 saves as St. Louis was shut out for a second straight game.
Fowler, who has allowed one goal or fewer in each of his past three starts, credited his teammates for boxing out in front of him so he could see the shots. It was his third career NHL shutout.
The standings picture
The win lifts Montreal to 7-3-2, winners of three straight with points in five consecutive games (4-0-1). It was the Canadiens' first game since Sunday's 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL Heritage Classic.
