The Montreal Canadiens beat the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg on Sunday. After a scoreless first period, Lane Hutson and Kaiden Guhle scored in the second period, with Cole Caufield assisting on both goals; Winnipeg did not reply until Isak Rosen scored at 15:24 of the third period.
The youngest outdoor starter ever
The win belonged to 21-year-old goalie Jacob Fowler, who stopped 33 of 34 shots to become the youngest goalie in NHL history to start an outdoor game, at 21 years and 335 days. He is also only the fourth rookie goaltender to win an outdoor game, and he extended his personal win streak to five games. Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said Fowler 'was tremendous' and praised the penalty kill's work in front of him.
Outdoor records and what's next
The victory improved Montreal to 3-2-0 all-time in outdoor games and extended its points streak to four games (3-0-1), moving the Canadiens to 6-3-2 on the season; Winnipeg has now lost five straight. In a footnote, Canadiens brothers Arber Xhekaj and Florian Xhekaj became only the third set of brothers to appear in the same outdoor game. Montreal next visits the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
