Montreal Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault out about two weeks; rookie Jacob Fowler recalled
Head coach Martin St. Louis announced Oct 9 that Montembeault suffered a lower-body injury at Wednesday's practice and will miss 10–14 days; the team has recalled top goaltending prospect Jacob Fowler.
Why it matters
Montreal Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault will miss about two weeks. Head coach Martin St. Louis announced on Oct 9, via TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie, that Montembeault suffered a lower-body injury at the team's Wednesday practice and is expected to be out 10 to 14 days.
Details
The Canadiens' net currently belongs to Jakub Dobes — Montembeault lost his starting role last season. This is the final year of his three-year, $9.45MM contract ($3.15MM AAV).
In his absence, the team recalled Jacob Fowler, widely regarded as the league's top goaltending prospect. Fowler has posted a .945 save percentage and 1.53 goals-against average in his first two AHL starts this season with the Laval Rocket, though he looked shaky in Montreal's loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
