Montreal Canadiens trade Jayden Struble to Nashville Predators for 2027 second-round pick

Canadiens GM Kent Hughes announced the trade of 25-year-old defenseman Jayden Struble to the Nashville Predators for a 2027 second-round pick.
Why it matters
The deal clears a logjam on the Montreal Canadiens' blue line and gives 25-year-old Jayden Struble a chance at more ice time in Nashville. Montreal adds another future second-round pick to its draft stockpile.
Details
Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced Friday that Montreal has traded left-shot defenseman Jayden Struble, 25, to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick originally belonging to the Vegas Golden Knights. Struble has played just three games this season with no points, averaging a career-low 12:05 of ice time. Predators president of hockey operations and GM Chris MacFarland said: "Jayden Struble is a 25-year-old physical defender who will add mobility and a hard-to-play-against quality that will help our backend."
Background
Struble was drafted by Montreal in the second round (46th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. The Cumberland, Rhode Island native has played 174 career NHL games, all with the Canadiens, recording seven goals and 28 assists plus 167 penalty minutes, and 14 playoff games. He is in the second season of a two-year, $2.825 million contract ($1.4125 million AAV) signed July 28, 2025. With Kaiden Guhle set to return from offseason surgery, Montreal had a surplus of left-handed defensemen, making the move unsurprising.
