Montréal's fire department and retired firefighters' association hold their 125th commemoration ceremony today at Cimetière Mont-Royal, with the lieutenant governor of Québec in attendance.

Why it matters

Montréal's fire department (SIM) and the Association des pompiers retraités de Montréal (APRM) paid tribute to their deceased firefighters at a commemoration ceremony on October 6 at Cimetière Mont-Royal. This is the 125th year the ceremony has been held, honouring active and retired firefighters who died over the past year.

The ceremony

The department's chaplain, Bernard Vadnais, officiated at the ceremony. Families of deceased firefighters and all SIM partners were invited to honour the memory of those who died in service.

The honourable Michel J. Doyon, lieutenant governor of Québec; Rosannie Filato, city councillor and executive committee member in charge of public safety; and senior managers of the SIM and APRM were in attendance. For the SIM, the ceremony is a way to pay tribute to its firefighters and honour their courage and devotion to the Montréal population.
