Quebec Premier Plamondon announced a one-time $28M emergency winter aid package for homelessness, with about $18M earmarked for the Montreal region and 1,000+ new emergency beds over five months.

Premier announces in person

Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who is also responsible for the fight against homelessness, made the announcement on the morning of Oct 23 at Accueil Bonneau in Montreal, accompanied by Montreal Mayoress Soraya Martinez Ferrada and Stéphane Paquet, minister responsible for the Metropolis.

$28M winter emergency funding

The one-time $28 million emergency funding will support nearly 200 winter emergency measures across 16 regions of Quebec; about $18 million is earmarked for the Montreal region. Combined with an already-planned $18 million, total winter measures this year reach $46 million.

1,000+ new emergency beds

The funding will add more than 1,000 emergency beds over the next five months, including extra capacity in warming centres and emergency and transitional housing, plus funding for renovations, meals and outreach services.
